Kari Chakka Curry

Kari Chakkai is a member of jack fruit family.I don't know what it's called in english. it's very small and the skin is tender than the original jackfruit.

Ingrediants:-
Kari chakkai - 2 cups cut into bite size pieces( i used 1/2 the fruit)
Onion - 1
Tomato -1
Coconut -1/2 cup
Poppy seeds-1tsp
Ginger Garlic Paste -2 tsp
Green chillies -1
Cloves-2
Cinnamon stick-1 inch
Star anise-1
Bayleaf-1
Chilli powder -1 tsp
Coriander powder -1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Fennel seeds-1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves -3 springs
Salt
Oil

Method:-
In a pressure cooker add oil and add cloves ,bayleaf ,star anise, cinnamon and fry well ,then add onion,g.chillies and saute till it becomes translucent.Add the Ginger Garlic paste and fry well till the raw smell goes.now add the tomato and saute for few mins .then add the chilli ,coriander and turmeric powder and mix well add salt and the kari chakkai and pressure cook it till 2 whistles in high flame.

In another pan add oil (1 tsp) and saute the coconut ,coriander leaves and fennel seeds in it for few mins until we get a nice aroma .make sure that the coconut does not change color .grind this coconut mixture along with poppy seeds to a fine paste. and keep it aside.

Add this coconut mixture to the cooked kari chakkai ,add water (according to the consistency of the gravy)and bring it to a boil.add chopped coriander leaves.check for seasoning .

This curry can be served with idiyappam, appam, chapathi ,roti, rice anything ......

Hi Chitra

This is known as breadfruit in English. In malayalam, it is known as kadachakka, at least
in Trichur and Palghat dts.

Best wishes
